QuestionHow can I use the competency model during performance review discussions?
Answer
There are a couple of ways the competency model can be useful during performance review discussions. One way is to complete a self-assessment. If you complete one at the beginning of the year and again at the end of the year, you can discuss any progress that was made and goals that were achieved. If you complete only one self-assessment, you can discuss areas in need of development and what actions will be taken to remediate. In any case, the discussion should always include an inquiry into identification of the main areas where you are trying to improve and the courses and on-the-job activities that you are engaged in to achieve mastery.
