Competencies will help your people focus on the key concepts and skill areas around which to plan their learning paths and key developmental activities. They can also act as a guidepost for career building as professionals look forward to seeing what types of skills they will need in the roles to which they aspire. Most importantly, competencies serve as a baseline around which to align the development of certain roles or groups of professionals to guarantee consistent levels of performance, i.e., all managers should be trained in specific competency areas so company directors can easily rotate team members in and out of assignments.
